then get on your bike and pedal like a bat out heCK...

I have bike around part of the lake.

It is a good ride. Very scenic, fairly flat. You would be wise to
research thoroughly and chose your roads carefully. Some roads will
have shoulders and some won't. The ones without are not much fun.

I live in Michigan but have not done that loop.

For what I know of Michigan "choose your roads carefully" is
important advice. Get a good map. The best maps are the old
ones from Universal Map. Notice I said "the old ones" . This
is important. Last year they redid them all and the new ones
are not as good.

The old ones showed which roads are dirt and which are paved.
The line thickness gave a good indication of traffic. That's
all gone.

Michigan has the roughest roads of any state I know. If you
want smooth roads, try Pennsylvania or Idaho. (runs for
cover...)

One of the good resources on riding in the various Great Lakes regions
is Harvey Botzman, who has published books on each of the lakes as well
as other routes. He sells the books on his website:

I used to live near Lake Erie and was aghast at the routes that were
recommended in the Lake Erie edition of this series. Several of the
suggested roads were ones that I tried to avoid in a car, especially one
that we called the "death highway". Maybe he updated the book and came up
with some better routes and maybe the routes around the other lakes are
better, but I would really check out the routes thoroughly if I were to use
one of these books.

He also missed things like routing cyclists over a bridge that does not
allow cyclists. If caught there, you do a nice 40 mile detour.

I don't know the state of the shoulders on the roads, but I am sure there is
a route, all planned out with directional signage. Again, I don't know how
well it has been maintained or updated, but we used to see lots of people
and groups riding it.

Keep them guessing. If they think you're crazy no one will notice when you
truly are.
